Environmental and Occupational Safety & Health Training
Asbestos management and abatement is regulated on the federal, state, and local levels. Originally, the U.S. EPA put into law a Model
Accreditation Plant (MAP) which regulated all asbestos training courses and required these training courses for workers performing
asbestos abatement in schools. With the passage of the Asbestos School Hazard Abatement Reauthorization Act (ASHARA), effective November
28, 1992, these requirements have been extended to inspection, abatement, and design in and commercials buildings. Residential properties
are included if they contain ten or more units.
Asbestos inspectors, management planners, contractor/supervisors, workers, and project
designers must receive training in state accredited classes. In addition, most states require that these individuals be licensed in
order to practice.
On October 11, 1994, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) amended its Asbestos Construction
Industry Standard (now 29CFR 1926.1101), requiring specific training for participants in the asbestos abatement cycle.
All of the
asbestos course offerings meet the OSHA standard requirements.
Our Training Center is a U.S. EPA state accredited provider of asbestos
training classes. SSS is fully approved to offer classes which satisfy the requirments of the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act
(AHERA) and the Asbestos School Hazard Abatement Reauthorization Act (ASHARA). SSS asbestos classes are also approved by the Illinois
Department of Public Health and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. For licensing requirements in other states, please contact
SSS.
